Religious

The traditions of the Potiguar people make Rio Grande do Norte a unique destination in the religious segment, here is the largest Catholic monument in the world, the image of Santa Rita de Cássia, located in the city of Santa Cruz/RN, 135 130 km from the capital potiguar. The State had 30 Christians canonized in 2017, in a ceremony at the Vatican, by Pope Francisco, after experiencing a martyrdom in the municipalities of Cunhaú and Uruaçu, in 1645 as a result of the Dutch invasions in Brazil. More than 80 faithful of the Catholic Church were killed; of these, 30 were martyred by the pope.

Devotions, monuments and parties dedicated to the protector saints are manifestations that reveal the solidarity, unity, receptivity and collectivity of the North of Rio Grande do Sul. Here, you can experience an experience of peace, purification and redemption, connecting with sacred traditions and expressions of faith.

The Monte do Galo Sanctuary, located in the municipality of Carnaúba dos Dantas, became an Intangible, Historical, Cultural, Landscape, Touristic and Religious Heritage of Rio Grande do Norte.

The Church of Nossa Senhora da Guia, the main Catholic religious temple in Acari, Seridó Potiguar, received from Pope Francisco, leader of the Catholic Church, the title of Basilica Minor, becoming the first church in Rio Grande do Norte to receive this recognition. The honor was granted through a decree issued by the Holy See, and takes into account the historical, artistic and architectural importance of the Acari matrix.
